    SJUSD Open Enrollment Process:

    Open Enrollment

    What is Open Enrollment?
The San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD) is pleased to offer parents a choice of excellent schools. Families who reside in the San Juan Unified School District have the opportunity to enroll students in any of the District’s schools providing:
    • Space is available in the appropriate program. (Available space is determined by defined physical and program capacity of the school after placement of enrolled resident students) AND,
    • Families are willing to provide transportation.
Open enrollment is a process to request a school other than your neighborhood school or to return to your neighborhood school following a transfer. Once you receive your open enrollment results, you will be assigned to your school of choice which becomes your residence school or placed on the waiting list for that site.

Open Enrollment is NOT on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis. A computerized random selection will determine which students are accepted for their choice schools.

Parents will need to submit a separate request for each child.

    Online Submissions:

The online submission of an Open Enrollment Request is available only for students that are currently enrolled in the San Juan Unified School District. If your child is currently attending a private school or if he/she will be entering San Juan Unified for the first time, please complete and submit an Open Enrollment Form

The Online Open Enrollment Application option will be available during the Open Enrollment period commencing on December 3, 2018 at 8:00 am and closing on January 18, 2019 at 5:00 pm. The Online Open Enrollment Application allows revisions to requests up to the final submission date of January 18, 2019 at 5:00 pm. The Online Open Enrollment application will not accept any requests or revisions after 5:00 pm on January 18, 2019. Open Enrollment requests made through the Online Open Enrollment Application will be automatically submitted to the computerized Open Enrollment lottery. Parents will be notified of the results of the lottery via US mail in February 2019.

    Please note:

If you receive your Open Enrollment choice of school for 2019-2020, it does not guarantee that in future years a sibling will be placed at that school site or that your student will matriculate into the feeder school. Feeder schools are based on the resident address of the student and not on Open Enrollment placement.

    Employees of SJUSD:

An employee of San Juan Unified School District "means any person in the service of San Juan Unified School district who is under any appointment or contract of hire.  This includes those individuals employed in regular positions, full time or part time, and does not include individuals hired as substitutes, school playground recreation aids, stipend or other short term positions."

Parents who are residents and employees of San Juan Unified School District are now able to submit their Open Enrollment requests online and claim their employee priority. An employee who requests the site where he/she works will receive the same priority as siblings do in the lottery. Employees requesting placement for their child at an alternative site via Open Enrollment will receive a secondary priority.
