HealthCorps®, a 501 (C) 3 co-founded by Dr. Oz, the two-time Daytime Emmy® Award-winning host of the two-time Daytime Emmy® Award-winning “The Dr. Oz Show,” and his wife Lisa, is building a movement to fight childhood obesity by getting to the underbelly of the crisis and helping Americans discover what they are really hungry for and why.
Vision and Mission:
HealthCorps®’ vision is to lead a nationwide movement toward a new generation of healthy young people. We were founded by heart surgeon and two-time Daytime Emmy Award-winning talk show host Dr. Mehmet Oz and his wife Lisa, to combat the childhood obesity crisis. Our mission is to implement an innovative in-school model that inspires teens to make healthier choices for themselves and their families.
HealthCorps at Encina:
The HealthCorps curriculum is composed of three sections — Mental Resilience, Nutrition and Fitness. This curriculum is aimed at both educating students and providing a holistic and relevant view of the role health plays in their lives. The curriculum is taught in two manners. With our “Living Labs” program, HealthCorps Coordinators work in classrooms, the lunchroom and run after-school clubs to provide materials that integrate these elements into a comprehensive health education.
