Hello my name is Erica Ruiz, I am a new parent at Rio Americano and very excited that my daughter is part of the CIVITAS program! Many of the alum from the Language Academy of Sacramento (LAS) have attended and graduated from the CIVITAS program. This is how my daughter and I became aware about the many benefits of CIVITAS and how successful students are in the program. After talking with parents of CIVITAS and CIVITAS students it was apparent that we would chose Rio, specifically CIVITAS for my daughter’s high school experience. She is a freshman this year and I look forward to being an active participant of the program throughout these next four years.

A little bit about myself. I served as a Parent Board Representative from 2013-2016 on the Language Academy of Sacramento Board. LAS is a K-8th Charter school and two-way immersion program in English and Spanish. It is also a 501c3 program. I understand the work that goes into running a non-profit program and the important role board members play in making it thrive.

I currently work full-time as an analyst for a state agency in communication and change management; helping to inform and educate staff or customers on upcoming program or policy changes (I really enjoy this work!). I also have my BSM degree in Leadership and Organizational Change so I understand how changes impact people and how important is it to communicate those changes.

I look forward to getting to know more about CIVITAS and the parents of Rio. If elected, I am committed to represent all parents’ voices at our board meetings to ensure our parents ideas and concerns are heard.

    Warm Regards,

Erica Ruiz, Parent- Class of 2020
