Welcome BACK Scots! Welcome to all of you Carnegie Scots, new and returning. It’s been a long (almost) two years in this pandemic learning stance and we are over the moon thrilled to be able to come back in person with all of you together. This is my fifth year being a part of this amazing Carnegie Scots community. We have several new members of our staff (Math and Special Education) as well as our new Vice Principal. Please welcome Mr. Chad Lyon to the Carnegie family!
While we are still the Carnegie Scots, most of you have never really been on campus at full capacity. You’ve been doing your best to “roll with changes” as they come and know that we’ve all really missed the in-person connection with both students and staff. We understand that there were some major losses with regard to not only academic but social emotional growth as well. Your Carnegie Scots staff has been working hard all summer to bring programs on to campus to help address all of these needs. For example, we have added a flex period to address needed interventions (academically) and to add some enrichment opportunities to allow you to really get to know new people and enjoy the Carnegie community! Not only are some of you entering middle school for the first time (a HUGE challenge in itself), but you are going to be “recovering” from the last two years of pandemic restrictions on your learning environment.
Parents and guardians: we are all in this wonderful middle school journey together. I encourage you to stay fully engaged in your student’s learning and success by accessing the Q Parent Connection (parent portal), "attending" Virtual Back to School Night, and joining in the fun at Open House in the spring. Additionally, you are invited to join me on the first Thursday of each month at 8:00 AM in the office quad (we’ll be starting in-person meetings outside) for Coffee with the Principal to be able to give you a more personal experience with the inner workings of Carnegie.
Here’s to a bright and shiny, in-person new year! I look forward to supporting you and your student in any way possible.
Principal, Andrew Carnegie Middle School
