Welcome to Mr. Gallington's Music Class at Kingswood K-8
-
Greetings Families!
Welcome to Mr. Gallington's music website. I am thrilled to be joining the team here at Kingswood K-8 as the full time music teacher. My hope is that our halls will soon be filled with the sounds of music but until that time I am commited to providing engaging and joyful music instruction through distance learning. San Juan Unified School District recognizes and affirms the role that the arts play in a child's development including during distance learning. During distance learning students will be expected to attend synchronous zoom lessons in music and complete the asynchronous lessons as assigned in their music google classroom.
Here you will be able to find information about music instruction at Kingswood K-8 including information related to distance learning. I am always available via email should you have any concerns or questions. My email address is aaron.gallington@sanjuan.edu. Please reach out to me if you need anything and know that my goal is to respond to emails with 24 hours.
Distance Learning in music will look slightly different then it would during a traditional school year. Each class will have one scheduled synchronous lesson during the week on the Zoom platform. In addition, students will also have an asynchronous lesson in their music google classroom. Students will be invited to join their music google classroom at the beginning of the school year. Within this virtual classroom the link for reoccuring zoom meetings will be posted. If at anytime you need to have this information please reach out to me via email.
During a normal school year music instruction occurs five days a week. Each classroom (First - 5th Grade & Music Elective in Middle School) has music instruction for a minimum of 80 minutes each week. In our music class time we work on the recently adopted California State Visual and Performance Standards in Music. The music standards are designed to enable students to achieve music literacy. There are four artistic processes that we are working towards during music class. These are as follows:
-
Creating
-
Performing
-
Responding
-
Connecting
During the school year students are working on various performances and music literacy projects. These can include learning to read and write music notation, composer research projects, playing rhythm instruments, music history units with particular emphasis on American and World Music, Recorders, and more. In addition to our class time we work on community performances such as a Winter Sing, Jazz Concert, Spring Sing, and more. The tabs on the side will provide further information and resources for music at Kingswood. My aim is to fill the halls at Kingwood with Music!
Cheers, Mr. Aaron Gallington
