Churchill Distance Learning & Grading Update
Beginning the Week of 4/13/20
Hello Churchill Families & Students,
We will be starting our new Distant Learning Schedule on Monday, April 13th. The week of April 13-17 will be spent finishing out the 3rd quarter. Monday, April 20th, we will begin our 4th quarter. The new Distance Learning Schedule for Churchill during this first week will follow the regular bell schedules (listed here). Modifications to our bell schedule will likely be made and communicated out to you by the end of the week to better support the Distance Learning model and after our teaching staff has time to give input.
Distance Learning & Grading Update - Please be sure to visit our webpage which includes some key definitions, terms and important updates about our grading information. This document also describes the plan to move forward with what are called Synchronous and Asynchronous learning activities. This guide was created in partnership with our teachers and our district leadership.
Churchill's teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare for this educational shift that will take us through the rest of the school year. Although we are all saddened that our school year is ending this way, we are committed to doing everything we can to provide the necessary learning experiences and to prepare every student for the remainder of this school year and beyond.
Our hope is you will find success in learning through an alternative method of delivery by our teachers, and that you do so with grit, determination and resiliency. These traits will carry each student forward as they navigate this new way of "going to school". For our students, this new shift in learning is a perfect opportunity to create a new routine and a commitment to work hard, strive for excellence and treat those around you with kindness and respect (especially online)!
We continue to send well wishes your way during these unprecedented times. Your patience throughout this process has been welcomed and appreciated. Please reach out to your teachers if you have specific questions about your online classes or class activities.
Here are some additional updates and informational links:
School closures have officially been extended through the end of the school year. The last day of school is June 9th.
Technology to support Distance Learning - Distribution events have been held at each of our K-8, middle and high schools to provide any student who needs a computing device with a Chromebook. If you missed our distribution day at Churchill (everyone will need a computer or Internet-connected device) and you need a Chromebook, you may still pick one up from any elementary school during their scheduled pickup times.
Elementary schools will hold distribution events April 13 - 17. A full schedule and school list are posted here on our district website.
Additionally, technology support is available should students have difficulty with their Chromebook or accessing learning resources. If your family needs help accessing the Internet, click here for resources.
Stay Informed - Our District has established a family resource hub for parents and guardians where you can find answers to many of your questions about distance learning as well as tips for how to best support your child. It can be found by visiting the COVID-19 mini-site athttp://www.sanjuan.edu/covid19 and selecting “Family Resources” from the navigation.
School Meals - San Juan Unified will continue to provide an opportunity for families to pick up two meals daily (lunch and breakfast for the following day) in a mobile walk-up or drive-thru meal service for children 18 and under. This is available at 27 school sites from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This service is scheduled to continue through the end of the school year. Click this link for locations https://www.sanjuan.edu/domain/8850
Closed Campus - Until further notice, Churchill is still closed to the public. Any items left at school will need to be picked up once permission has been granted by our county and district officials. As soon as we have permission and a plan, I will let you know.
Please let me know how I can help and be sure to take good care of yourself and your loved ones.
