How to Choose a Model
All students will be enrolled in distance learning at their school to start the 2020-2021 year in alignment with local health guidance and state health orders.
Families may also choose to enroll their student(s) in the TK-8 homeschool program or 9-12 independent learner programs. Visit the program pages to find more information as well as online enrollment application forms.
TK-8 Home School
San Juan Unified offers an established TK-8 Home School program designed to meet students' individual needs while providing support to families who choose to educate their children at home. Parents/guardians partner with a credentialed advisory teacher to create a customized educational plan for their students that meets California state standards.
As part of the program:
- Students receive four to six hours of daily instruction and complete coursework for each subject.
- Parents or guardians meet regularly with the assigned teacher.
- Families receive curriculum, resources, teaching tips and educational advice.
9-12 Independent Learning
Independent Learning for students in grades 9 through 12 is designed as an option for self-directed learners. Students in the program will be paired with a master teacher who will provide guidance toward course completion and remaining on track for graduation. Because students will remain enrolled at their high school, they'll also be able to access athletics and extracurricular activities.
