20 July 2022
Dear Arcade Families,
On behalf of teachers and staff, I am happy to welcome you to Arcade Fundamental Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year! We have had quite a busy summer at Arcade, and I have several exciting updates to share with you.First, we have an additional vice principal, Philip Tateishi, joining our team. Mr. Tateishi has been a teacher at Churchill Middle School and was most recently Interim Vice Principal at Katherine Johnson Middle School. We are excited to expand our administrative team to better support our students, families, and staff.
Our teachers and counselors have been hard at work this summer, preparing for the launch of two new programs that we are starting this school year. Ms. Andrea and Ms. Kirby are spearheading our W.E.B. program, which stands for “Where Everybody Belongs.” The W.E.B program partners incoming 6th-grade students with 8th-grade student mentors to ensure a smooth transition to middle school for our new students. Please check out the hot pink flier located in this packet, which has more detailed information about this program, and please plan on sending your 6th grader to W.E.B. Orientation on Monday, August 8th from 8:00 – 11:45 A.M., located in our MP Room.
Arcade is also launching a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program this school year, thanks to the hard work of our PBIS team: Mr. Gallagher, Ms. Flaherty, and Ms. Bullock. This team created a program designed specifically for Arcade, and all Arcade staff will have been trained in this program before the school year begins. Arcade’s PBIS program focuses on having all staff use common language and enforce “Spartan Strong” behaviors with students, the main tenets of which are being safe, kind, and responsible. Staff then positively acknowledging when students exhibit these behaviors by awarding them a “Spartan Strong” ticket. You will soon notice your child with these tickets which they can redeem for various prizes or special privileges.
Finally, you may have heard that Arcade is getting a full campus redesign! Over the next two years, our existing campus will be demolished and a new Arcade, with an entirely different footprint, will be built in its place. The new Arcade will have state-of-the art classrooms; expanded facilities for our STEAM program, including a maker space and a media classroom with a full recording studio; a modernized MP Room; and a parking lot with a pickup and drop-off loop. While the construction process may pose some challenges, we will communicate any changes to you and your students as often as needed and as quickly as possible. We are not set to begin construction for a few months, but if you would like a sneak peek at some of the architects’ design renderings, please visit https://www.sanjuan.edu/arcademod.
We truly have an exciting year ahead of us! I look forward to getting to know you at our campus events throughout the year and to being a collaborative partner with you in your child’s education. If you have any
questions, concerns, or ideas to share, please contact me at lindsey.mcmanigal@sanjuan.edu or at 916-971-7300.Sincerely,
Lindsey McManigal
