    Hello Maverick Families,

We had a very successful first day of school here at Mesa Verde HS.  The students and staff did great and we are appreciative of everyone.  I want to follow up the first couple of days with some useful information for parents and students.  Please take a couple of minutes to read the message below.

    Schedule Changes

We are working very hard to stabilize schedules for the year.

    • Schedule changes will be restricted to changes based on courses required for graduation, course misplacement, balancing of classes or a level change.  We are not able to accept requests for specific instructors.
    • To best meet the educational needs of our students and in an effort to streamline our process, as well as increase efficiency, our Counseling Office will work exclusively with the Course Change Request Form (see link below).
    • Please refrain from e-mail and phone communication regarding schedule changes.   Rather, please only use the Course Change Request Form (see link below).  Please do not make repeat requests.
    • The window to request a Course Change closes on August 17th

    Tardy Policy and Safety

While we want to provide a great overall educational experience for our students, we always want to ensure that safety is also a top priority.  As an extra safety protocol this year, our school will keep all classroom doors locked when school is in session.  To prevent classroom disruptions, we need to commit to students arriving to class on time, especially 1st period.  Having late students continuously knocking-on doors will make it difficult for students sitting in class to stay engaged. We will need everyone’s help with this.  Teachers will be at their doors before the bell rings welcoming students and encouraging them to get to class on time.  Campus monitors and Administrators will guide students to get to classrooms, and students and families will need to arrive at school on time.  School safety is extremely important to us, and together I know we can make this a priority.  Along with the new process of locking doors, we will be implementing a new tardy policy that will help encourage students to get to class on time.  Please read the tardy policy

    Reminders:

Free breakfast and lunch is available to all students again this year. The free/reduced priced meal program affects a variety of areas unrelated to school meals, including school funding, internet access, college application fees, SAT fees and bus passes. Even if your child doesn't plan to eat school lunches, it is important to fill out the free/reduced priced meal program application to ensure our schools and families receive the available resources. All San Juan Unified families are being asked to complete the application or return a form to opt-out of the free/reduced priced meal program:
    Apply online using this form

School picture day is August 15th.  Students were given passes today telling them what time they need to report to the small gym for their picture. Students will also receive their ID cards.  Please make sure your student is dressed in accordance with our dress code.

Athletic passes:  This year we are offering students the opportunity to purchase an athletic pass.  The passes are $30 and gets them into all home athletic events for free (except for playoffs). Student athletic passes can be purchased here:  MVHS GoFan page - ASB All Sports Pass

Season passes for General admission can be purchased here:  MVHS GoFan page - Maverick Season Pass.

Tickets for individual games can be purchased here:  MVHS GoFan page - Individual Events.

I am so proud to be a part of the Mesa Verde Community and Maverick Nation.  I get to work alongside all of you to provide the best educational experience for your children.  My door is always open and I welcome communication as we continue to serve students together.  My hope is that during your student’s time at Mesa they continue to explore, dream, and discover while finding ways to pursue their purpose.  We are excited about what the new school year will bring.

    Go Mavericks!
