Dear Parent/Guardian:
Each spring, students participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
Depending on your child’s grade, they will take the following tests:
- Students in Grades 6– 8 will take English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics tests.
- Students in Grade 8 will take a science test (CAST).
KJMS TESTING SCHEDULE
- Science (grade 8 only): March 27 - 31
- ELA: April 18 - 27
- Math: May 2 - 11
Attendance and test participation are very crucial to your child’s success. Have your child avoid non-emergency absences, and encourage them to arrive at school and class on time.
Electronic device use is not permitted in the testing classroom. Students will be required to keep devices stored in their backpacks and placed at the front of the classroom throughout the duration of the test. If you need to contact your child during this time, feel free to contact the office at (916) 971-5500.
Incentives for students who follow SOAR expectations and maintain good attendance throughout testing.
The assessments are computer-based tests that measure what your child knows and is able to do.
To learn more about the CAASPP system, go to the California Department of Education Parent Guides to Understanding webpage at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp.
You can become familiar with the testing format and the different types of test questions by looking at the practice or training tests at: http://www.caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html
