Upcoming Family Education Opportunities:
The Family and Community Engagement Department offers a variety of virtual/in-person family education classes, workshops and conferences throughout the school year. Parents, step-parents, grandparents, caregivers, guardians and community members are welcome to attend to learn how to support student academic and social-emotional success in school. Below are classes and workshops currently being offered.
Family Power Hour
In these interactive Q&A style sessions, families are invited to join the F.A.C.E Department staff and various San Juan USD departments to get assistance with any questions that arise throughout the school year.
Family Power Hour Sessions are hosted on Zoom from 5:30–6:30p.m. on the following dates:
- Thursday, December 9 (Presentation on Open Enrollment and academic goal setting after recent parent-teacher conferences.

Family Leadership Academy
Family Leadership Academy is a 6-week series that empowers families to gain a greater understanding of our educational system, current district initiatives, and parent leadership opportunities. Participation for the Winter '21 session of Parent Leadership Academy is now closed. Please stay tuned for additional dates!
Families Matter WorkshopsFamilies matter workshops are one to two hour mini-workshops that cover a wide range of topics and are tailored based on common needs in our district. Topics include, but are not limited to, bullying prevention, student success, internet safety, college awareness and preparation, and more! Our department coordinates about 3-4 of these workshops per school year. Families Matter: Prevention Strategies
Wednesday, November 17 from 5:30 - 8:30 pm via Zoom
Join us for a night of informative family workshops about prevention topics such as bullying/cyberbullying, social media use and internet safety, substance and vaping prevention, having healthy family communication, and more! Experts will be sharing practical strategies and tools on how to have meaninful conversations with youth regarding these topics. Pre-registration for this event is not required. Cuentos Familiares, The Latino Family Literacy ProjectThe Latino Family Literacy Project is a class designed for parent and guardians to teach the importance of establishing a family reading routine with their children at a young age. Class participants also learn about building English and Spanish vocabulary skills. This class is taught in Spanish.Cuentos Familiares es una clase interactiva que enseña a familias la importancia de establecer una rutina de lectura en familia y las motiva a conservar el idioma de casa a través de la cultura. Este taller semanal está diseñado para familias con estudiantes de Kinder a quinto grado y tendrá una duración de seis semanas comenzando el miércoles 21 de abril de 2:00 a 3:30 de la tarde. Los Talleres Familiares son una serie de talleres virtuales para padres de familias, tutores, cuidadores, y miembros de la comunidad en donde pueden recibir y aprender información importante para ayudar con la involucracion y el éxito en la educación de su estudiante. En estos talleres, miembros de el Departamento de Participación de la Familia y Comunidad y representantes de diferentes departamentos del distrito compartiran información acerca del distrito, recursos para el aprendizaje de su estudiante, recursos de la comunidad, consejos de como apoyar a su estudiante, y mucho mas! Cada sesion de Talleres Familiares contiene contenido y temas diferentes y cubre información para ayudar a estudiantes en todos los grados de Kinder a 12.Familias están invitadas a las siguientes fechas de Talleres Familiares para el ciclo escolar 2021-2022:
