A note from Superintendent Bassanelli: Getting started at San Juan Unified through early learning opportunities
Dear San Juan Unified community,
Start here. Grow Here. Achieve here. This is a philosophy we have used in recent years on how we connect with and build our community. It’s so easy to imagine the different areas in which you can apply this, but where my mind immediately goes is to our students who start their educational journeys with us.
Here in San Juan Unified, we have many opportunities for students. I often think of our early learning options as an unsung hero of education. Our early learning programs are such an important foundational block in terms of supporting a child's development and readiness for school. With programs like Early Childhood Education/Preschool, transitional kindergarten and kindergarten, San Juan Unified strives to provide options for a strong starting point for students. It can be so easy to overlook these opportunities within our community, and I urge you to share them with anyone you know who might be seeking that critical entryway for their child.
I recently visited Kingswood K-8, where I talked to some of our educators about the importance of these programs. Take a look at the video to learn more about our early childhood education and preschool offerings, and transitional kindergarten, which continues to expand each year until it is available to all four-year-olds in our district.
We look forward to continuing to support students in getting their start at our schools, growing in our programs and achieving their dreams.
In community,
Melissa Bassanelli
Superintendent
