A note from Superintendent Bassanelli: The power of student voice in our district
Dear San Juan Unified community,
I hope everyone had a fulfilling and refreshing winter break! As we enter 2024, I know our schools are coming together with new goals and ambitions for the remainder of the school year, and I’m excited to see our students continue to grow and achieve.
We achieve our best work when we bring diverse voices to the table, especially those of our students. I am proud that in San Juan Unified we work to bring our student voice forward in multiple ways. I benefit from hearing directly from students who are part of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee (SSAC). These high school students from throughout the district generate and work towards initiatives that are meaningful to them, from improving safety and communication in our schools to advocating for and supporting their fellow students.
Our schools bring students' voices forward in their own ways. Check out this video from Casa Roble Fundamental High School students and staff on how they’re elevating student voice on their campus and the impacts it can have.
The voices of our students and others are also informing our district’s new strategic plan development. Our strategic plan will outline district objectives to help shape our efforts to support our schools. Students, staff and families are also encouraged to participate in the annual climate survey, a vital tool that informs decision-making by providing insights into how students, families and staff feel about their school experience. Be sure to share your voice and participate in the annual survey.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and schools.
