Board Briefs: Aug. 11

Here are a few highlights from the Aug. 11 board meeting (the agenda packet is available):

Board hears update on student discipline and schoolwide student behavior 

Staff provided an update on districtwide efforts regarding student discipline and schoolwide student behavior. The report shared work completed during the 2025-26 school year, including goals, data trends related to student suspensions and expulsions and districtwide professional development to support efforts to improve student behavior. Focus areas included social-emotional learning, bullying prevention and restorative practices. 

In other news…

• The board discussed proposed revisions to the board policy on suspension and expulsion/due process. Action is anticipated on Aug. 25.
• The board held a public hearing and approved the material revision to the New Pacific Charter Arden Arcade educational program.
• The board also held a public hearing and adopted a resolution declaring the conveyance of an easement at San Juan High School to SMUD.
• The board adopted the Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators for the 2026-27 school year.
