Here are a few highlights from the Dec. 16 board meeting (the agenda packet is available):

New president, vice president and clerk elected

Tanya Kravchuk was elected president this year, while Manuel Perez will serve as vice president and Nick Bloise will serve as clerk.

Board receives report on i-Ready 2024-25 data results

Staff provided a comprehensive view of student performance and growth across key academic areas. The presentation highlighted:

  • What i-Ready Assessments are: 
    • Online, individual assessments are given to K-8 students in math and literacy in the fall and winter of each school year, with optional weekly lessons for students to work on at their level 
    • Provides data on student learning that teachers can use throughout the year 
  • Two ways of looking at data: 
    • Cohorted: demonstrates how an individual student is growing as they move through grades 
    • Non-cohorted: shows how a grade is doing last year compared to this year
  • K-2 ELA i-Ready results (Winter to Winter) 
    • 1% overall decline (non-cohorted 2023-24 to 2024-25) 
    • 1st graders declined by 12%, 2nd-graders improved by 6% (cohorted 2023-24 to 2024-25) 
  • 3-8 Math i-Ready results (Winter to Winter) 
    • 0.2% overall decline (non-cohorted 2023-24 to 2024-25) 
    • 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th-grade students improved from previous year (cohorted 2023-24 to 2024-25)

In other news…

  • The board accepted the 2024-25 Audit Report as prepared by the district's independent auditor. The board also reviewed and approved the 2025-26 First Interim Report.
  • The bargaining interests of the Teamsters Union Local No. 150 were presented for discussion. The board adopted the bargaining interests with the Teamsters Local No. 150 for 2025-26.
  • The board held two public hearings and discussed the renewal petitions for the Aspire Alexander Twilight Secondary Academy and Aspire Alexander Twilight College Preparatory Academy charter schools. The terms of these charters will expire on June 30, 2027, unless the Board of Education approves their renewal. Action is anticipated on both renewals on March 10.
