Here are a few highlights from the Feb. 11 board meeting (the agenda packet is available):

Board approves resolution to committee fund balance

The district identified expenditures to support various programs and initiatives that can be met with the current fund balance commitments. The board adopted a resolution to commit the district’s fund balance to extend the highest impact and priority Learning Recovery Emergency Block Grant actions and supports, as well as adding supports for newcomer students. 

Staff provides mid-year update on the 2024-25 LCAP

The 2024-27 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a three-year plan that supports the continuous improvement of student performance within the eight state priorities, with an emphasis on English learner, low income and foster youth students. The LCAP is updated yearly based on a review of state and local data, input gathered from consulting with our educational partners and research. The LCAP mid-year updates included available mid-year data and expenditures related to metrics and actions in the 2024-25 LCAP. The full presentation is available.

  • The board recognized the district’s six 2025 Classified Employees of the Year:
    • Marina Alba, Instructional Assistant I at Cottage Elementary School
    • Andy Anderson, Lead Custodian at El Camino Fundamental High School
    • Diana Braden, Health Instructional Assistant for Health Services
    • Anthony Brooks, School Community Intervention Specialist at Katherine Johnson Middle School
    • Marythony Sohl, Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Staff
    • Dave Wilkerson, Plumber for Maintenance and Operations
  • The board also adopted a resolution proclaiming the week of March 2-8 as National School Social Work Week.
  • The board discussed the proposed revisions to a board policy about international exchange. Action is anticipated on Feb. 25.
  • The board held public hearings and adopted resolutions approving portable projects at Cottage Elementary, Dyer-Kelly Elementary, Greer Elementary, Howe Avenue Elementary, Starr King K-8 and Whitney Avenue Elementary. The board also held a public hearing and adopted a resolution approving the San Juan High School outdoor learning/stadium project.
