Here are a few highlights from the Jan. 27 board meeting (the agenda packet is available):

Superintendent Bassanelli to return on Feb. 2

The board shared that Superintendent Melissa Bassanelli will return to her role as superintendent on Feb. 2.  Acting Superintendent Trent Allen will return to his role as chief of staff at that time.

Board hears update on maintenance and operations

The Maintenance and Operations department remains dedicated to supporting San Juan Unified schools by keeping safe, clean and well-maintained facilities. Staff provided the board with an update on the department’s ongoing efforts to fulfill this commitment. Key areas of focus included streamlining communications and services, reviewing work order data, monitoring district utilities to ensure efficiency, maintaining adequate equipment and operational readiness, reviewing the deferred maintenance project selection process and outlining plans for future deferred maintenance work.

  • The board adopted two resolutions recognizing staff, including proclaiming the week of Feb. 2-6 as National School Counseling Week and proclaiming the week of March 1-7 as National School Social Work Week.
  • The board heard a presentation regarding updated information on the Ralph M. Brown Act.
  • The board discussed the proposed revisions to the board policy on interdistrict attendance. Action is anticipated on Feb. 10.
