Board Briefs: June 24, 2025
Here are a few highlights from the June 24 board meeting (the agenda packet is available):
Board receives update on strategic plan implementation
The board received an update on the continued rollout of San Juan Unified’s strategic plan, which is entering its second year. The presentation highlighted how departments and school sites are aligning their actions with the plan’s four strategic directions and emphasized ongoing engagement with students, families, staff and the broader community to support implementation. View the full presentation. A focus for 2025-26 will be identifying more targeted efforts under each strategic direction, which will be further discussed during a board workshop in August.
In other news…
- The board approved San Juan Unified’s 2024–27 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).
- The board reviewed Local Indicators for both San Juan Unified and Choices Charter School, as required for the California School Dashboard.
- The board approved the 2025–26 LCAP for San Juan Choices Charter School.
- The board adopted the 2025–26 district budget, which included updates to the 2024–25 budget, staffing standards, spending plans for the Education Protection Account (EPA), and documentation of excess reserves.
- The board held initial public discussions on bargaining proposals for the 2025–26 school year with:
- San Juan Teachers Association (SJTA)
- California School Employees Association, Chapter 127 (CSEA)
- San Juan Professional Educators Coalition (SJPEC) - Action is anticipated at the Aug. 12 board meeting.
