Update provided on summer learning opportunities
Staff highlighted the summer 2024 programs and opportunities for students, including credit recovery, special education and readiness programs. Sites, in collaboration with district resources, were provided local control to determine what actions would best meet the needs and interests of their students. Through collaboration with various educational and community partners, engaging learning opportunities for students across the district were developed. More than 5,800 students in the district participated in summer school this year.

The board recognized Melissa Oates from Dyer-Kelly Elementary School as San Juan Unified’s 2025 Certificated Employee of the Year.

The board accepted the 2023-24 unaudited actuals and approved revisions to the district’s 2024-25 budget.

The board reviewed a new board policy on political practices. Action is anticipated at the Sept. 24 board meeting. The board also discussed revisions to board bylaws and the retirement of a policy on governing board meetings.
