Board Briefs: Sept. 22

Here are a few highlights from the Sept. 22 board meeting (the agenda packet is available):

Board discusses process for appointee selection in Trustee Area 1 

The board discussed and directed staff on the criteria members would like to use to evaluate candidates applying to fill the vacancy in Trustee Area 1. 

San Juan Unified is seeking a passionate community member to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education representing Trustee Area 1. This provisional appointment offers a unique opportunity to advocate for students, families and staff, serving a term through November 2028. The community can learn more at www.sanjuan.edu/area1. 

In other news…

• The board adopted a resolution recognizing the week of Oct. 12-18 as the Week of the School Administrator. 
• The board held a public hearing and adopted a resolution stating that each pupil in each school in the district has sufficient textbooks and instructional materials in each subject, consistent with the content and cycles of the curriculum framework adopted by the state board. 
• The board held a public hearing and discussed the Options For Youth renewal petition. This charter term will expire on June 30, 2027, unless the board approves renewal. Action is anticipated on Dec. 15.
