Celebrating Culture and Community: International Nights at Encina and Mira Loma High Schools
San Juan Unified students, families and staff came together on Thursday, May 1 to celebrate culture, identity and community during International Night events at Encina Preparatory High School and Mira Loma High School.
At Encina, students proudly wore traditional clothing representing their heritage, while others took the stage to share cultural performances, including a powerful Native American dance and a high-energy Taiko drum performance. Informational booths lined the campus, and guests received “passport” tickets to explore various programs, learn about student initiatives and enjoy free food from around the world — creating an immersive and interactive experience for the entire community.
Just across the district at Mira Loma, the 2025 International Expo and Open House brought global pride and student talent to life. Rooted in a legacy of unity and global citizenship, the evening featured multicultural booths, vibrant international cuisine and performances by more than a dozen student groups, including Latinos Unidos, the India Smile Society and the Taiko Club. Traditional performances from Vietnam, Uganda, China and more highlighted the rich diversity woven into the fabric of the Mira Loma community.
These events do more than entertain — they reflect the values at the heart of San Juan Unified: honoring student voice, celebrating cultural identity and fostering inclusive spaces where all families and cultures are seen, respected and uplifted.
By prioritizing equity and family-centered engagement, schools like Encina and Mira Loma continue to strengthen partnerships with their communities — offering meaningful opportunities for students to shine as global citizens.
