Mariemont Elementary School crosses the finish line on its campus modernization project
Almost a year after breaking ground, the Mariemont Elementary School community gathered in the crisp autumn morning to celebrate the completion of its campus modernization project.
In recognition of the campus’s newest updates, students, staff and community members cut the ribbon on the renovated school grounds as kindergartners participated in the school’s jog-a-thon on the freshly renovated blacktop area.
The blacktop area is not the only area that received improvements on the campus - the scope of this project also included new roofs, fresh interior and exterior paint, new carpets and windows, updated teaching walls, counter space and furniture.
Fifth-grade student Charlie Devereux spoke to the importance of these upgrades during the ceremony.
“This remodel has changed this school and the equipment so that it’s more modern and efficient than before,” said Devereux. “These kids can enjoy the classrooms with the same joy and gratitude that our friends do. I’m looking forward to continuing these great experiences in these wonderful new rooms.”
Fourth-grade student, Apollo Hipley, followed up by sharing, “All of these changes can help make learning more comfortable and fun for students and teachers. These upgrades are really needed and mean a lot to me, because Mariemont means a lot to me.”
Seventy-one years after being established, Mariemont stands as an example of how investing in our schools brings bountiful benefits to students and staff. The renovations completed at this site directly provide physically and emotionally safe, welcoming, inclusive, joyful and culturally responsive classrooms and school environments.
San Juan Unified School District is grateful for our community who continue to invest in our schools through voter-approved bonds. These 21st-century standard facilities are the foundation of a secure and distraction-free educational experience for all students and staff.
