Rio Americano’s Raider Robotics team heads to world championships in Texas
The robotics team at Rio Americano High School has earned a spot at the prestigious FIRST Championship, taking place April 29 through May 2 in Houston, Texas.
As the world’s largest robotics competition, the event brings together teams from 66 countries for a global celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Rio Raider Robotics qualified after a strong season that included a 2nd place finish at the Elk Grove competition, ranking in the top 50 out of 4,000 teams overall, and placing 7th at the NorCal Championship, where they also finished 4th in scoring out of 60 teams.
The team’s success reflects weeks of dedication, with students spending nine weeks designing and building their robot, often staying late after school to prepare for competition. Now, they’ll take that hard work to the international stage as they represent their school and San Juan Unified community at the world championships.
