San Juan High School celebrated the completion of its newly modernized stadium with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 23, marking a huge milestone for the school community. Students, staff, families and community members gathered to celebrate the new space together.

The upgraded facility features include a new synthetic track and field, two tennis courts and improved amenities, including a ticket booth, concession area and restroom building. Additional improvements include ADA-accessible walkways, updated lighting, enhanced security features and landscaping, creating a safer and more welcoming space for students and the community.

The project was funded through the district’s bond program and made possible by Robert A. Bothman Construction, 6D PMCM and Verde Design.

Principal David Levis and Board President Tanya Kravchuk spoke during the ceremony, highlighting the importance of community investment and the impact the new stadium will have on student experiences.

“Your support of San Juan Unified’s local bond measures makes projects like this possible,” said Kravchuk. “These investments create spaces that inspire learning, build pride and strengthen connections across our schools and neighborhoods.”

Levis reflected on the significance of the project, stating, “This project represents a significant investment in our students, school, athletic programs and our community. I would like to thank San Juan Unified School District, our students, families, community and so many community partners. We now have a stadium that will serve generations of students for years to come.”

A special moment recognized Edwin H. McArthur, a former educator and principal at San Juan High, for whom the stadium field is named. Members of the McArthur family were in attendance to celebrate his dedication and legacy.

“Thank you to all who made this day possible and the dedication of this football field complex in honor and memory of our dad,“ said Robert McArthur, son of Edwin McArthur.

San Juan High 12th-grader Brenda Alcaide Navarro shared what the new stadium means for students.

“Thank you to everyone who believed in us and invested in our future. Your support truly made a difference to our Spartan athletes. It is an honor to be here today, and it will be an even greater honor to be the first class to graduate on this very field,” said Navarro.

Certificates were presented to the school by Magnolia West, representing the office of Senator Roger Niello, Lane Gonick, representing the office of Assemblymember Josh Hoover and MariJane Lopez-Taff, mayor of Citrus Heights.

The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon-cutting, marking the opening of a space that will host athletic competitions, school celebrations and community gatherings for years to come.
