San Juan Unified welcomes Cloris Henry as new senior director of human resources

Cloris Henry, Ed.D., has been selected as the San Juan Unified's new senior director of human resources, pending approval by the Board of Education. Henry is expected to step into the cabinet-level position on Aug. 18.

Henry brings extensive experience to the role, having served as assistant superintendent of human resources at Yuba City Unified School District and in a variety of leadership roles at San Francisco Unified School District and private educational organizations. Since April, she has been working with San Juan Unified as an independent contractor, supporting the human resources team during a time of transition.

“Cloris has already proven to be an invaluable partner in recent months,” said Daniel Thigpen, chief of human resources. “Her experience, thoughtful leadership and ability to build strong systems will help our human resources department strengthen the ways it serves all of our employees and school communities.”

The senior director of human resources is a newly established position created as part of a recent cabinet restructuring. The role will lead day-to-day operations in the department to ensure alignment and cohesion across these essential functions.

“I am excited to officially join the San Juan Unified team and continue the work we’ve started together,” said Henry. “Human resources plays a critical role in supporting staff and advancing student success, and I look forward to working alongside colleagues to build a strong, responsive department.”
