Share your feedback on draft cellphone and mobile device policy

San Juan Unified thanks the nearly 5,000 students, parents/guardians, staff members and others who shared their thoughts about students’ use of cellphones, smartwatches and other mobile devices at school. Your feedback has been very helpful.

The thoughts shared have given us a clear picture of the many perspectives on this important issue.

What We Learned:

  • Distraction and Focus: Many of you said that mobile devices can distract students and make it hard for them to focus on schoolwork.
  • Safety and Communication: Participants also stressed that it is important for students to have their devices for safety reasons, especially in emergencies.
  • Privacy and Cyberbullying: Some of you are worried about privacy and the risk of cyberbullying when students use their devices without limits.
  • Consistency and Enforcement: Many want clear and consistent rules for all schools and grade levels to make sure the rules are fair and followed by everyone.

Using your feedback, we have created a draft policy to address these concerns and help students learn better. Now, we need your help again to make sure this policy is right.

Please review the draft policy and share your thoughts by visiting www.sanjuan.edu/mobilepolicy. (You can also view the full results of the ThoughtExchange.)

Feedback will be taken through April 22 and will be used to revise the policy recommendation before it is considered by the board of education for approval.
