Summer Construction Recap
This summer, while many school sites were enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation, construction crews took advantage of the quiet time to ramp up several projects and improvements. Here’s a roundup a few of the bond-funded projects around San Juan Unified:
Mesa Verde High School
Crews made major progress for the high school’s signature stadium project this summer. Stadium bleachers, press box, lighting, restrooms, concession stand, ticket booth and turf field have all been completed. The tennis courts and track area are nearly complete and await surfacing. Additionally, the locker rooms received new finishes including new orange accent walls and LED lighting. The project is expected to be completed by Fall 2023.
Casa Roble Fundamental High School
Casa Roble’s locker and team rooms experienced a refreshing summer renovation. New underground utilities and concrete paving located between the gyms and the locker rooms were installed. Modernization of the boy’s locker and team rooms is nearly complete, pending the arrival and installation of new lockers. The walls have been painted with the school’s signature blue accents. The rooms now feature new benches, water fountains and a water bottle refill station.
Arcade Fundamental Middle School
Excitement is ramping up for Arcade’s new classroom buildings, which are now beginning to take recognizable shape. Students and staff can see the new administration building and multipurpose room peeking above the safety fence, while the foundation of the new science building is shaping up. Arcade’s projected completion date is Fall 2024.
Katherine Johnson Middle School
The brand-new campus is now showing above-ground progress, with classroom building foundations now set in motion. Preparations are currently being made for the foundations of the administration and science buildings. Katherine Johnson’s new campus is projected to be completed by Fall 2024.
Earl LeGette Elementary School
LeGette Elementary continued making headway on its highly-anticipated modernization project. Most notably, classroom wings A and C have been modernized to feature new windows, flooring, casework and furniture. New outdoor amenities such as perimeter security fencing, a renovated parking lot, a new baseball backstop and new sod for the playing field were installed just in time for the students’ return to school. Crews are still hard at work to complete the multipurpose room, administration office and amphitheater by the Summer 2024 completion date.
Other renovations and future projects
San Juan Unified was busy at work on a number of other renovation projects at sites which included the outside-of-campus sidewalk work at John Barrett Middle School, parking lot renovations at Rio Americano High School, roofing updates, upgrading furniture and more.
