Earl LeGette Modernization

LeGette Elementary continued making headway on its highly-anticipated modernization project. Most notably, classroom wings A and C have been modernized to feature new windows, flooring, casework and furniture. New outdoor amenities such as perimeter security fencing, a renovated parking lot, a new baseball backstop and new sod for the playing field were installed just in time for the students’ return to school. Crews are still hard at work to complete the multipurpose room, administration office and amphitheater by the Summer 2024 completion date.

Earl LeGette Elementary School students returned from spring break to brand new transitional kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms. This new facility is only one of several exciting new updates to come, including the construction of a new multipurpose building, sitework that includes dedicated bus and student drop off lanes and full renovation of all remaining classrooms to 21st-century standards.

Earl LeGette Elementary School’s new multipurpose room walls were installed on March 3. Check out the progress below!

Earl LeGette Elementary students and staff took a moment on Feb. 27 to sign their name onto a steel beam that will be installed onto the overhang of the school’s future multipurpose room. Passersby can now view the framework of the new multipurpose building.

Demolition and site mobilization have started, along with the preparation of the site for grading and underground utilities work. Construction crews worked to remove an old septic tank, fill the remaining hole and compact the dirt. Dirt import and trench work has also started, as well as the fire access road and building pads. Students, staff, parents and community members gathered to celebrate the start of construction with a groundbreaking ceremony. Thank you to all who attended! After the official groundbreaking, parents, staff and community members were invited to take a photo with a hard hat and a shovel.  

On April 20, 2022, San Juan Unified held a meeting with the community surrounding Earl LeGette Elementary School. That meeting was held to allow district officials to hear the concerns about the proposed project including traffic, pedestrian access, safety and other issues. The meeting included a full overview of the initial project design, an overview of construction logistics and a Q&A session.
