Q: Do I retain the copyright to my submissions?
A: You retain ownership of your writing. You can use whatever writing you submit at later times. The San Juan Unified School District can use the magazine and excerpts of writing/art as part of district social media or advertising. The district may ask for permission first.
Q: Who will be reading my submissions?
A: A panel of volunteer students will be reading submissions. Your name, school, and other identifying information will not be seen by the readers. They will only read your submission.
Q: May I submit writing in a different language (non-English)?
A: Yes, you may submit writing in any language. If your submission is approved, it will be published with an English translation, in addition to the original. If you are able to provide an English translation, please do, but if not, one will be provided for you.
Q: Do I have to submit my own original work?
A: Yes, only submissions that are original will be accepted. Do not submit translations of work that you didn’t create. Do not submit works written solely by artificial intelligence.
Q: May I submit anonymously (do I have to share my name)?
A: Yes, you may submit anonymously. You must share your name when submitting your writing, but if you choose to remain anonymous, your name will not be published.
Q: May I submit an author biography?
A: Yes, you may attach a professional biography along with your submission. The biography must be written in the third person, and the word limit is 60 words. Please refrain from using slang.

Q: Is there a minimum word requirement for submissions?
A: There is no minimum word count requirement.
Q: If I am submitting a comic strip, how do I know how long my submission can be? Is there a maximum number of drawings I can submit?
A: Please submit no more than two pages worth of content.
Q: When will the magazine be published?
A: The magazine will be released in Spring 2025. Digital and physical copies will be available. More information to come.
Q: When will I find out if my submission will be published?
A: You will be notified in Spring 2025, after the review panel of volunteers evaluates the submissions based on the rubric.
