Overview

San Juan Unified literary magazine is a student-led initiative driven by passionate students and mentored by educators. The magazine provides young writers with a platform to share their creative works, emphasizing the power of creative writing in promoting identity, equity and educational justice. It was created to give students a space where they can express themselves freely. 

Submissions

Are you interested in having your writing or art published? Submit to the third edition of the literary magazine for high school students by Jan. 16, 2026! Writers and artists must be San Juan Unified students in grades 9-12.

This year's theme is What's Your Why. Submit writing or art considering the following guiding questions:

  • What makes you feel alive? What shapes your decisions?
  • How does your environment influence you?
  • What motivates you?
  • Who/what inspires you?
  • What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Editorial Leadership

Want to join the leadership team? Apply to Editorial Leadership

  • Gain valuable leadership experience by co-leading the third literary magazine publication
  • Network with students and faculty members
  • Represent the magazine as an ambassador
  • Take on the role of an editor
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of the publication
  • Foster an appreciation of writing and the arts in your community

Apply by Oct. 30, 2025. Applicants must be San Juan Unified students in grades 9-12.
