PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)

The PSAT/NMSQT serves as both a practice SAT and a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program for 11th-grade students. It helps students build familiarity with the format and content of the SAT, while also identifying areas for improvement.

  • Offered: Every October
  • Eligibility: All 10th and 11th grade students
  • Registration: Automatically registered through their school; there is no cost to families

After taking the PSAT/NMSQT, students gain access to College Board's BigFuture platform. BigFuture offers a range of personalized tools to support students in planning their college and career journeys, including:

  • Tailored college recommendations based on student interests and test performance
  • Career exploration resources aligned with students' strengths and aspirations
  • Guidance on how to pay for college, including scholarships and financial aid
  • Score reports and connections to colleges and scholarship programs via the BigFuture School mobile app

Students are encouraged to activate their College Board account to fully explore these tools and make the most of their PSAT experience.
