San Juan Education Foundation hosts virtual Evening with the Stars

The San Juan Education Foundation hosted its second virtual Evening with the Stars on Oct. 1, where more than $85,000 was raised for programs across San Juan Unified schools.

This year, four San Juan Unified alumni were honored and inducted into the STARS Hall of Fame for their great contributions to their fields. The honorees are Charles M. Rice, PH.D., Ramit Sethi, Chip Gracey, and Ken Gracey.

“I feel so lucky to have gotten to know Charlie, Ramit, and Chip and Ken,” said San Juan Education Foundation Executive Director, Colleen Cadwallader. “Not only are they doing amazing things with their lives, but they are also such wonderful people. Each was willing to give their time and talent to San Juan Education Foundation without reservation.”

The night ended with a surprise for all, as the foundation honored San Juan Unified teacher Trent Teague who died earlier this year, for their Shining Star Award. This award usually highlights a member of the foundation for their work throughout the previous year.

“Honoring Trent Teague was so special,” said Cadwallader. “So many San Juan Unified students were impacted by Mr. Teague’s passion and commitment and to be able to celebrate and recognize him along with the people that loved him most was incredibly rewarding.”

Cadwallader added she hopes the foundation will honor more teachers in the future, encouraging people to nominate teachers this spring.
