Mira Loma High School students get a taste of college life
More than 500 Mira Loma High School students took part in UC Davis’ Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) College Connection Day on Oct. 22. The event aims at helping students understand what college life is like and how the admissions process works.
The day kicked off with a red carpet entrance, followed by a virtual speech by UC Davis Chancellor Gary May. From there, students broke out into small groups to partake in workshops with EAOP staff where they could discuss admissions, what it’s like to live in a dorm, what classes they should take, their majors and much more.
“Mira Loma High School was lucky to be chosen to have the EAOP on our campus,” said school counselor Jeannine Hall. “This event is only offered to a couple of schools each year. We want all of our students to know how to apply and attend college as well as build a rich college and career ready high school.”
Due to the selection process, Mira Loma staff do not know if they will be chosen again next year. However, the EAOP partnership is new to the campus and members will be visiting often to meet with students in small groups as well as individually throughout the year.
