Superintendent's Message: Recent events in Washington, D.C.
Dear San Juan Unified Community,
The freedom of expression through peaceful assembly is a hallmark of democracy that has moved our society forward time and time again. Violence, vandalism and a disregard for the safety of our neighbors and public servants like we saw in Washington D.C. this week have no place in civil discourse. Our nation must remain committed to this principle and accept nothing less as we engage each other in debate and dialogue.
In this difficult time, we know that our students are watching and listening. It is our role as educators and members of our community to use these events as a learning opportunity with students and each other.
I recognize that Wednesday’s events left many of us feeling shaken, angry and uncertain about what may happen next. This is true for our staff, our students and our families. I encourage each of us to practice self-care both mentally and physically. Below are some resources that may be helpful as we all have conversations over the next few days.
