Community to cut ribbon on new Dyer-Kelly Elementary campus
Dyer-Kelly Elementary School students, teachers and staff will kick of the new school year with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its sparkling brand-new campus on Aug. 14. The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. followed by the school’s “meet your teacher night” for students and families.
The two-story Dyer-Kelly campus is the first brand new elementary school to be built in San Juan Unified since Gold River Discovery Center in 1992, and is designed to meet the needs of its diverse Arden-Arcade neighborhood. Every classroom wing contains a theme from a different continent with a “Main Street” and hallways that connect students and teachers to collaborative learning environments. The main entrance includes an indoor amphitheater that can be used for small assemblies and presentations.
"I keep picturing the look on everybody’s faces on that first day … this is astounding for me, I can’t imagine what it’s going to be for a 5 or 6 or 7-year-old,” said former Dyer-Kelly principal and current Director of Elementary Cassandra Bennett Porter.
