May 6: Weekly COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 case and testing positive rates moved lower this week for Sacramento County on the official state dashboard. The adjusted case rate fell to 7.5 per 100,000. Only the week of March 22 was lower for case rate since last October. The testing positivity rate, adjusted for equity, fell to a new low for the year at 4 percent. To reach the orange tier of the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system the county’s case rate must fall below 6 cases per 100,000 residents.

Sacramento County's COVID case rates per 100,000 is 7.5 for May 6.

Adjusted guidelines for vaccinated individuals

On Wednesday, Cal/OSHA, which regulates workplace safety in the state, released revised guidance that now aligns their regulations with current language from the Centers for Disease Control and California Department of Public Health allowing individuals who have been vaccinated to not quarantine if exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19.

To be eligible, an individual must:

  • Be fully vaccinated with both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
  • Have passed a 14 day period since their final vaccination was administered.
  • Be within 90 days of their final vaccination being administered.
  • Show proof of vaccination in the form of their vaccination record from a vaccine clinic or health professional.

It is possible these eligibility requirements will be adjusted in the future.

Students over the age of 16 and all adults are currently eligible for vaccination. Health officials expect to authorize children ages 12 and older in the coming days. While vaccinated students may avoid quarantine, it is important to keep in mind that they may still be impacted if an entire class, athletic team or other group is closed.

Because schools have a high population of unvaccinated individuals, anyone present on a school campus, including those who have been vaccinated, must wear a face covering. This applies indoors at all times and outdoors when unable to maintain at least six feet of distance between non-household members.
