Here are a few highlights from the July 27 special board meeting:
District’s transition to by-trustee area elections
The district held a special board meeting on July 27, where the board conducted a second public hearing to consider proposed maps and receive final input from community members.
After the public hearing, the board took action to increase from a five-member board to a seven-member board.
Following this decision, a public hearing was held to receive community input regarding seeking a waiver from the State Board of Education, allowing for an increase in board membership, without the requirement of an election seeking voter approval of the increase in board membership. The board adopted the resolution to seek the waiver. If the waiver is granted by the State Board of Education, no election to approve the increase in board membership will take place, and the County Committee’s decision on the district’s application will be final.
The board then held a public hearing and adopted the Seven Trustee Areas - Conceptual Scenario 3 map. Additionally, the board selected Option A for Seven Trustee Areas - Conceptual Scenario 3 as the preferred election sequencing schedule.
Lastly, the board adopted a resolution initiating a proposal to the Sacramento County Committee on School District Organization to adopt by-trustee area elections, and to implement the selected map and election sequencing schedule. The resolution also requests that the County Committee approve the increase in board membership. The County Committee will meet on August 5, 2021 in the district’s board room.
