School start and end times adjusted for 2022-2023 school year

In accordance with Senate Bill 328, school districts are required to adjust their school days by July 1, 2022, to begin no earlier than 8 a.m. for middle schools and 8:30 a.m. for high schools. Due to San Juan Unified’s mandated transportation services, adjustments to the start times of elementary schools are necessary as well in order to comply with the new law.

After reviewing three potential options last October, the Board of Education voted to adopt the option B bell schedule for the 2022-2023 school year. Under option B, school times adjust a maximum of 45 minutes, while impacts to the transportation system are minimized. View the full list of bell schedules for the 2022-2023 school year

San Juan Unified recognizes that the shift in start and end times will have many impacts on students, families and staff. The district is committed to working with school sites to identify challenges the new bell schedules may bring and work toward finding solutions. One such challenge that has already been identified is before and after school care. San Juan Unified is already looking at options for expanding before and after school care at school sites that are most impacted by the bell schedule changes. Additional details will be available over the next several months as plans are developed.
