May 25, 2022

Dear San Juan Unified community,

I am deeply saddened by yesterday’s tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. My heart and thoughts go out to all those impacted by this catastrophic event.

We understand this tragedy may impact students, staff and families. Children may have questions, and/or feel the need to talk about what has happened. Counseling is available to students and staff who may need extra support or simply someone to talk to. Please contact your school front office or counseling department if you’d like to request support. Information on supports available through the district, including the CareSolace referral service, can be found at www.sanjuan.edu/gethelp

Additionally, below are a few resources that may be helpful as we have conversations over the next few days.

Please know that safety is a top priority. We would like to remind everyone that we have safety procedures in place and as part of that, we ask for your help in continuing to create safe spaces and reporting any concerns. We continue to ask our students, staff and families that if they hear something, or know something, to say something to a school adult.

Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other.

Sincerely,

Kent Kern
Superintendent
