Following the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Sac-Joaquin Section’s decision to move fall sports to a possible January start, San Juan Unified is suspending all athletic conditioning programs beginning Monday, July 27.
The district is working directly with CIF to implement fall sports, with practices beginning in December under a plan updated this week. All practice, conditioning and potential competition will continue to implement COVID-19 safety protocols.
“We will be working together after the start of our school year to start planning upcoming conditioning and practice schedules based on the possible opening of schools this fall,” Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Rick Messer said in an email to athletic directors districtwide.
The current plan, barring a setback, would allow fall sports to begin practice as early as Dec. 7 for football, and on Dec. 14 for cross country, soccer (for D7 teams), water polo, and volleyball.
