San Juan Unified student leadership group to host fourth-annual PRIDE Conference
San Juan Unified high school students from the PRIDE PAK student leadership group will host the fourth-annual PRIDE Conference on March 21, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Rio Americano High School. The conference will be a student-led professional development opportunity to educate staff and families on inclusive practices, terminology and legal matters for the district’s LGBTQ+ community.
Students will lead breakout sessions and roundtable discussions around supporting the district’s LGBTQ+ youth. Topics will include LGBTQ+ 101, gender identity, gender expression and inclusive practices for the classroom and school site. The event will also include adult and student panels, as well as a Q&A opportunity.
A light breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided.
PRIDE PAK stands for Pride/Perspective, Respect, Individuality, Diversity and Equity with Purpose, Action and Kindness. The group, with the support of the district’s Equity and Student Achievement Department, aims to promote equity and safe learning environments for all in San Juan Unified through resources, support and education.
