Board hears update on summer professional learning
Summertime in San Juan Unified serves as a powerful launching point for professional learning that is continued throughout the school year. Approximately 3,000 participants deepened their professional knowledge and practice this summer. Professional learning opportunities were available in a variety of formats, including conferences, institutes, collaborative workgroups, small group sessions and book studies covering a wide range of topics.
One area of focus this summer was around new curriculum adoptions. Approximately 540 teachers attended training around the new history-social science curriculum, where they focused on equity and inclusion. Additionally, sixth through eighth-grade teachers participated in trainings around Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) instructional shifts.
