Board Briefs - Aug. 27, 2019

Here are a few highlights from the San Juan Unified Board of Education’s most recent regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 27 (the full agenda packet can be found here).

Highlights shared from the start of the school year

The start of a new school year brings many changes for students, families, schools, district staff and the community. This year is no exception as we welcomed new students and staff to San Juan Unified, unveiled new facilities and set the stage for another year of learning and growing. A video highlighting back-to-school activities was shared with the board.

Update on continuous improvement stance and culture shared

Staff reported to the board on the differences between data used for accountability and data used for improvement, with particular attention to the culture stance needed to embrace a mindset and practice of continuous improvement within our educational system. This report is the first of a series that will be brought before the board during the 2019-20 school year and helps set the stage to highlight continuous improvement efforts in our system. The full presentation is available.
