BOARD BRIEFS - Dec. 10, 2019

Here are a few highlights from the San Juan Unified Board of Education’s most recent regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10 (the full agenda packet can be found here).

New board president elected

Members started the meeting by electing Paula Villescaz as the next president, Dr. Michael McKibbin as vice president and Zima Creason as clerk. President Villescaz thanked and recognized Pam Costa for her leadership as president during the last two years.

Board discusses results of fall 2019 Accountability Dashboard

The fall 2019 California Accountability Dashboard includes district and school performance on the approved indicators, as well as information for all significant student groups.

Staff presented an overview of the district’s dashboard results to the board. This year’s indicators include:

  • English language arts
  • Math
  • Graduation rate
  • College/career
  • English learner progress
  • Suspension rate
  • Chronic absenteeism

 In other news …

  • The board received and accepted the 2018-19 audit report as prepared by the district’s independent auditor.
  • The board approved the 2019-20 first interim report.
