The district has been working closely with the NAACP and several community partners to identify and eliminate barriers to student success, as well as provide an inclusive environment for all students, families and staff.

The district has seen areas of improvement due to these efforts, including:

  • Increased number of underrepresented students participating in advanced courses
  • Increased professional development opportunities for staff related to equity, inclusion and cultural competency
  • Building new partnerships with community organizations

“It is an honor for San Juan Unified to be recognized by the NAACP as a change agent,” said Diana Marshall, San Juan Unified’s director of equity and student achievement. “As a district, we are making progress, but we still have more work to do as we continue these efforts. We look forward to the continued work with the NAACP, as well as our other community partners.”
