A note from Superintendent Bassanelli: Jan. 17, 2023

Dear San Juan Unified community,

As we return from the long weekend, I wanted to thank you for your flexibility as we have dealt with the impacts of many recent storms. I especially would like to extend my appreciation to our maintenance and operations team for their work around the clock to ensure that we had safe campuses for students and staff. It’s truly inspiring to see our teams come together during difficult times to support each other and our community.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and share how honored I am to be your new Superintendent of Schools. I am excited to continue to serve San Juan Unified’s students, staff, families and community in my new role. The trust placed in me by the Board of Education is a responsibility and commitment that I take seriously.

I will be taking the next several months to connect with and build relationships with our San Juan Unified community and look forward to seeing the great work being done across the district in the second half of this school year. The team put together a video highlighting my background, family and goals for those who would like to learn more about me.

I look forward to continuing to work with the San Juan Unified community, and I am excited for what’s to come. Please feel free to contact me at superintendent@sanjuan.edu to discuss and share your ideas regarding our district and our work.

In community,

Melissa Bassanelli
Superintendent
