Join Staci Slaughter at An Evening with the STARS on Oct. 2
As an employee of the San Francisco Giants for nearly 25 years, Staci Slaughter has seen the value of mentorship first hand. From the young players finding a veteran on the team to show them how to be a professional, to the many mentors that adopted her as a woman in a male-dominated field, or the mentees she took on, Slaughter understands that mentorship is an important part of growth both personally and professionally.
“It can be an incredible pathway for young people to aspire and achieve their dreams,” she said.
Slaughter, a San Juan High grad, is now the Executive Vice President of Communication and a special adviser to the CEO of the Giants and will be inducted into the San Juan Education Foundation Hall of Fame on Oct. 2 at Evening with the STARS.
This year’s event is raising funds to support two important San Juan Unified initiatives: literacy and mentoring.
With literacy, the district is looking to expand its library of e-books and to offer more books and novels by diverse authors that reflect our student population. With mentorship, the district is looking to expand programs like Improve Your Tomorrow that pairs young men of color with a mentor to help them on their path to college.
