Howe Ave Discovery Club student test positive for COVID-19
On Wednesday, Sept 16, school and district officials learned that a student in one of Howe Avenue Elementary’s Discovery Club groups tested positive for COVID-19. The student was last on campus Sept. 9.
Several strategies have been put in place to reduce the likelihood of COVID-19 spread including the use of facial coverings, enhanced cleaning of common touch points, encouraging frequent hand washing, attempting to maintain physical distance between individuals and minimizing the number of students or staff members who interact with each other. While these efforts greatly reduce the chance of spreading COVID-19 they cannot eliminate the possibility.
Families of students and staff members who may have been exposed are being notified directly via a phone call and letter. They may also be contacted by local health officials. In the meantime, all students and staff who are notified of possible exposure are advised to quarantine to the greatest extent possible and schedule a COVID-19 test as soon as possible. COVID-19 testing is also available through healthcare providers and through Sacramento County at no cost.
Following the guidance of local health officials, the impacted Discovery Club class at Howe Ave. will be closed through at least Sept. 24 to allow students and staff to be tested and to avoid further spread of the virus. The site will also undergo a thorough deep cleaning.
