New Sacramento County health order requires face coverings indoors
With COVID-19 infection rates increasing rapidly in our community, Sacramento County has issued a new health order requiring the use of face coverings by all individuals when indoors in a public setting which includes all San Juan Unified schools and offices. Effective July 30 and until further notice, employees, students and guests on campuses, offices and other district facilities are required to wear face coverings over the nose and mouth when indoors.
The use of face coverings outdoors remains highly recommended. These requirements apply to both individuals who have and who have not been vaccinated for COVID-19.
Only those individuals with verified medical reasons are exempt from face covering requirements. Face coverings may be removed by individuals who are working alone in a closed office or room, by individuals who are actively eating and/or drinking, by individuals who are swimming or showering in a fitness facility, or by individuals who are obtaining a medical service involving the nose or face for which temporary removal of the face covering is necessary.
Students, employees and guests are welcome to use their own face coverings that are constructed of at least two layers of cloth material. Gaiters which are a single layer of material and face coverings that contain holes are not permitted. Disposable face coverings are available at all school sites and offices upon request.
In recent weeks the seven-day average COVID-19 case rate has increased dramatically in Sacramento County, rising from 3.9 cases per 100,000 residents on June 20 to 21.6 cases per 100,000 residents as of July 24. This is the highest level of community spread in the county since early February.
Use of face coverings is one layer of safety and protection against the spread of COVID-19. Vaccinations are another key strategy that offer individuals increased protection from illness caused by COVID-19 and reduce the chances of spreading the virus. In partnership with Rite Aid, San Juan Unified will hold COVID-19 vaccination clinics for anyone age 12 and older on Tuesday, Aug. 3 and Thursday, Aug. 5.
