IB Examinations Update - 1 May 2020

Hello everyone,

I hope everybody is healthy and that sheltering in place is working for you.  Here are a few updates about the IB Diploma program at Mira Loma:

Internal Assessment Uploads are Done!

For the first time in history, the IBO has canceled the May examination session.  In place of exams, they required that we upload every student’s internal assessment in every IB testing class.  Internal assessments are major assignments done in IB diploma level classes - research papers, oral interviews in your second language and literary commentaries are common.  Normally IB requires only 10% of these student assessments to be uploaded.  In a normal year, we upload about 200 files for internal assessment moderation.  This year we uploaded 2051 files - an enormous job made possible by the hard work of IB teachers and Mrs. Ferrarini.

IB Transcript Requests

Seniors, please send in a transcript request form to Mrs. Ferrarini as soon as you’ve decided where you’ll be going to school next year.  You can find her form in Managebac or by following the link provided:

Refunds - Still no Word from IB

As of today, April 30th, IB has not changed its website section on refunds.  My experience with the IBO suggests that there will not be any special refunds for exams in May 2020 for one simple reason: IB is still awarding diplomas and certificates.  If something changes I will certainly let everyone know.

All students enrolled in IB testing classes should be checking their messages on Managebac.  Teachers are using it to communicate.  IB Juniors should also update their testing plans for the senior year as soon as possible - the plans are unlocked now and you can edit them.

Where to go for More Information

https://www.ibo.org/news/news-about-the-ib/covid-19-coronavirus-updates/ This is the official IBO site.  It is updated weekly though at this point not much is changing anymore.

https://www.sanjuan.edu/COVID19 This is the San Juan Unified School District page about changes due to COVID 19.

That’s all I have for the present, everyone. I miss you all and I miss being together at school each day.  Please email me with any questions and take care of yourselves.

As I mentioned earlier I want everyone to be safe and healthy.  I also want students who have worked and studied diligently for at least two years to get the recognition they deserve - and IB wants both of these things also.
Hang in there, everyone.
