When students come to Mira Loma High school, and join our International Baccalaureate (IB) program, they are asked to complete a capstone project known as the Personal Project and it begins the summer between their 9th and 10th grade year, culminating in February/March of their 10th grade year. The Personal project is an opportunity for students to express themselves, demonstrate the skills and understanding they’ve acquired during their time in the IB Middle Years Program, and apply these skills to a goal that they set for themselves that focuses on one of the IB Global Contexts.
The IBMYP sophomores participate in the MYP Personal Project Showcase to culminate their MYP experience, and this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are moving to a digital platform for the showcase.
The MYP Personal Projects are exactly that – personal. The students engage in practical explorations (logging 25+ hours of work in the process) through a cycle of inquiry/investigation, planning, taking action, and reflection. The aim of the MYP personal project is for each student to develop the attributes of the IB learner profile while becoming involved in a year-long project of their own choice. Students assess their approaches to learning, while incorporating a global concept in their investigation.
